How our obsession with business logic led us to build agent-native data infrastructure.

For years, we were obsessed with a simple question: why is business logic so hard?

We spent a long time trying to solve it at the database layer. Move logic closer to data. Make it transactional. Make it consistent. And it worked, to a point. Businesses could express complex rules, run them instantly, trust the results.

But the execution model remained fundamentally passive. Logic would fire when triggered by a request, a scheduled job, a database event. Between triggers? Silence. The system knew things, had rules, could act, but only when asked. It couldn’t watch. It couldn’t anticipate. It couldn’t maintain continuous awareness of a situation unfolding across multiple signals.

Then agents arrived. And suddenly, everything clicked.

Agents don’t poll. They don’t wait for requests. They need to be activated when conditions align, not when events fire. A single event is noise. A constellation of signals forming a pattern, that’s worth waking up for. Agents need context pushed to them, not pulled by them. They need to act on situations, not react to notifications.

This was the missing piece. Not better triggers. Not faster queries. A fundamentally different relationship between data and computation: condition-driven activation with rich context, flowing continuously to agents that can reason and act.

That’s Inferal.

We’re building the data layer that agents actually need. Real-time context delivery. Condition-driven activation. Decision trails that let you understand not just what an agent did, but why. The infrastructure that turns autonomous agents from demos into production systems you can trust.

What to Expect

This blog is where we’ll share what we’re learning:

  • Engineering deep-dives into architecture decisions and the problems we’re solving
  • Research on agent behavior, instruction adherence, and what makes agents reliable
  • Product updates as Inferal evolves
  • Industry perspective on where agent infrastructure is heading

If you’re building with agents, exploring what’s possible, or just curious about where this is all heading, we’d love to have you along.

We’re just getting started.
